2018 Flight Plan, Part 1

Good morning to all my guests on board with us today, welcome to Fort Lauderdale and Happy New Years!

This year I got to ring in the new year 34k feet in the air with an amazing crew, a pitch black cabin so everyone could sleep, and silently clapping and smiling with a co worker who was hoping a ride home with us.

New Years Eve is bittersweet for me – every year as children for as long as I remember I would spend it with my cousin Laurel. Once we got older and could make our own plans for the night, we were right back together for that moment…no matter how far apart we were living from each other at the time. Now, as careers and life alters, I work holidays so I am unable to be anywhere besides my favorite metal tube on moments like this. However, it hasn’t ever stopped Laurel and I from contacting each other every single New Years Eve to continue to spend that special moment together over the phone.

It is those small moments with Laurel from countless years, and the ones we now make via the phone that light up my heart and world. Those are the ones that get me through life, those are the one that I cherish more than the world “priceless” can even begin to describe.

I have never been one to make New Years resolutions but as I am going through some big changes at the moment – stayed tuned on that – so some resolutions I made recently ended up lining up with the New Years. So why not bore you all with a New Years resolution post? πŸ™‚

So here’s my 2018 flight plan!

-Read the whole Bible in 2018

I have never attempted to read every verse of the Bible like this before and I am literally so freaking excited! I have done some research on how other people have done it and came across some plan options online. I have decided the best option for me is to use a “bubble tracking sheet” and simply go cover to cover instead of bouncing around.

Note: I will still be participating in my normal Bible study and reading.

-Devote 10 minutes a day to prayer

I am literally always praying … I couldn’t even begin to count how many times a day I am standing there praying in my head to The Lord. In the car, before take off, before landing, in the Starbucks line, before bed, sitting on an airplane traveling somewhere, before dinner, walking to check the mail, etc. However a big flaw of mine is that as you can probably tell from that, I am also doing other things at the same time. I want to sit alone in my room and devote ten minutes a day to pray to God with no other distractions. That is the least I can do and I know it will deepen and continue to strengthen my relationship with God significantly.

-Stop avoiding Mass

Melanie … you don’t HAVE to work weekends … you CHOOSE to work weekends. Also … there is this thing called Daily Mass that happens during the week πŸ˜‰

-If there comes a time where I need to reevaluate my circle, do it.

Simple as that. I have spent too much time letting people be apart of my life who, frankly, sucked. If I died right this minute the last thing I want to be doing with my last breath was wasting it hanging with some shitty insignificant person who treats me like shit. That’s a slap in the face to each breath God is giving me, and it’s a slap in the face to my friends who did have this life taken away from them and don’t get those breaths anymore.

Not to something, and not from something – which is usually my motto – just freaking run…and stop using my torn up hip as an excuse not to. Struggle breeds greatness.

-Spend more time playing tennis

This one speaks for itself as tennis is the greatest thing that has ever happened to this thing called life…besides Matt Damon, obviously.

-FaceTime with my nieces & nephew more often

I think about my nieces and nephew DAILY and my heart is constantly aching to be with them. I need to step up and be a better Aunt and set more time aside to spend on FaceTime with them. There is nothing more important than my family – there is always time to be made for them no matter how busy my day.

Last but not least, Improve my Quality of Life!

That last one has a big plan and will be touched base on in a blog post coming to your flight plan very soon! πŸ™‚

Happy New Years, everyone! Wishing you all a kick ass year full of joy and health.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you”, declares The LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
